Pros: A light-weight durable kayak that has been causing waves in the kayaking world. Featuring a low-drag haul shape it will cut through the waters as if it is a fish to water, effortlessly, without affecting speed. We loved the Hobie Mirage 13 it is a all-rounder kayak that you will fall in love with.
Cons: There is not much space to fit in much equipment is you are going to be kayaking with a friend. We easily fitted our pup and 2 backpacks, so is great for a solo kayaker.
The Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 is the kayak for you if you want the best of all kayaking worlds. It is like having an SUV you can use for hauling things that converts to a sports car when you want speed. The Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 utilizes a Patented Mirage Drive cassette that can easily be popped in. This marvelous system lets you peddle and not paddle your way around the waterways hence why this awesome kayak has made the Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 review.
There is a choice of two flippers for the Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 in addition to the standard penguin-shaped flippers. The standard tipped flippers have a tension adjustment in the rear of the fin. With this adjustment, you can satisfy your need for speed or you can go for power or a combination in between these two settings. One set of flippers that are truly versatile. If that is not enough, you can also use the Turbo flippers. These flippers are longer than the standard tipped flippers and are not adjustable. But, if you are looking for additional speed while peddling, these flippers will do the job. You will need more strength to use the Turbo flippers, but the increased speed will be worth it. It is as good if not better then the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 100 Kayak.
If you want to pop out the Patented Mirage Drive, you can easily switch over to traditional paddling. I have to tell you, that you can do this even on the water. The Patented Mirage Drive stores easily in one of the hatch compartments. If you launch in shallow water, you will probably be launching without the drive since it would scrap and snag on the bottom of the river or lake until you get out into deeper water. If you don’t want to paddle and you don’t want to peddle, you can still enjoy the Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 because it has the ability to accept a sail. Think about this, the Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 can be propelled by almost every method possible for a kayak. All you are missing is the ability to drop in one of those nuclear submarine engines.
The pedalling mechanism is neat and easy to use. You can use your left hand to occasionally correct the rudder while sipping your onboard beverage with your right hand. The kayak is very stable and is easy to move through the water. It can hold up to moderate winds quite well. There is a compartment in front of the driver that can be used to store the Hobie round tackle box. This is great if you wish to use the storage space for your phone, lunch, cooler, etc. It is not really necessary to get the round tackle box since you already have plenty of storage space, but it is an option. Have I mentioned that the Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 is extremely customizable and comes with plenty of options hense its inclusion in Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 Review?
The seat is adjustable and has an inflatable lumbar support. You don’t find a lot of kayaks that are concerned with lumbar support, so this is a real plus. The adjustable seat has a high back and is well padded. The pedals are comfortable to use and are easy to get your feet in and they don’t slip out when you don’t want them to. The Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 was built for speed but can become your favourite fishing kayak. It can get you to the fishing spot easily and you can pop up the rudder and drive system to provide a flatter surface under the water that will help prevent you from getting the fish caught underneath. However if you are looking for an inflatable fishing kayak why not look into the Intex Explorer K2 Kayak, a great all-rounder kayak.
Many kayaks have fixed components that end up snagging that elusive fish under the kayak. I’m not saying you won’t have any snagged fish, but you have a much better chance of avoiding it with this great kayak. Since the Hobie Mirage Revolution 13 is 13 feet long, it will keep you on course much easier than shorter kayaks. This means that you spend less time manning the rudder. You also can stop pedaling or paddling and the kayak will continue in a relatively straight line. This kayak is sturdy enough for taking out in the surf, as you would expect for any vessel bearing the Hobie name. After all, Hobie started out making surfboards after graduating from high school in Southern California.
